ome is a wonderful city. I was there with friends for a week in 2012 and already had some posts about it online. We started at 6am from Brussels airport to Rome. Therefore we had almost the whole day to explore Rome. Unfortunately I had forgotten Dussel my camera in the hotel and could make only pictures of the mobile phone. Our first task was to get a week ticket, which was quite complicated because Termini was a big construction site at that time. Then we went to the Aventine where we looked through the keyhole and enjoyed the view of Rome. It was an extremely beautiful and warm day. Just the right thing if you just came from the rainy Germany/Belgium.
By the way, I can only recommend Alitalia. The prices at the time of booking (4 months before) differed clearly from AirBerlin (which is no longer available today) or GermanWings (today Eurowings). Unfortunately, we had not found a suitable flight from Düsseldorf or Cologne and therefore had to switch to Brussels. It was a stretch with the car but I would do it again!
On our second day we went to Ostia Antica. The weather was not as great as on the first day but perfect for this ancient port city. Afterwards we went to St. Paul in front of the walls and to Gelateria Della Palma, the best ice cream parlour in Rome. If you are ever in Rome, you have to visit them. You’ll find them near the Pantheon and you won’t regret it!
On our third day we went to the Lateran Basilica. In front of the Basilica we saw many obtrusive street vendors. But I don’t want to burden them because these people have a hard life. We have a free “tour iPod” when we enter the basilica. So we got more information about the Lateran. I also bought the Rome pictures I showed you in my procession. After the Lateran we drove to the Colosseum.
